The Lake Farley Summer Events Series has been redesigned for 2016. It takes off this Saturday when Q-Fest and the Ski Show hit the park in Milbank.

“We are excited to get rolling,” said Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce Interim Director Laura Kelly. “It will be fun a day.”

Q-Fest heats up with local cooks vying for the best BBQ chicken, ribs, and briskets. Judging will be from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three places in each division. People’s choice voting will determine the grand champion.

Public sampling of the goods goes from 5 to 7 p.m. or until the meat runs out. Tickets must be purchased to sample. Side dishes, such as baked beans, coleslaw, and chips, will also be available for purchase.

During the sampling, the FM All-Stars will provide free musical entertainment. The Fargo-based band features Isaiah Folk, son of Tony and Kim Folk of Corona, and Daryl Van Beek of Wilmot.

A free ski show by the Aberdeen Aqua Addicts Water Ski Team follows at 7 p.m. “It incorporates different types of water skiing, including team jumping, bare-footing, and a pyramid,” said Kelly. “You don’t want to miss it.” The hour-long show features five boats, and over 60 performers, including four U.S. world champions.

Bring your own chairs or blankets for seating. And remember coolers will not be allowed in the park, but pop, water, and beer will be available at the beer garden, which will stay open all evening.
