The South Dakota Army National Guard’s 740th Transportation Company of Milbank was presented a National Guard Superior Unit Award, June 20, during annual training at Camp Guernsey, WY. The Superior Unit Award is given to units who meet highly enforced military standards in the areas of personnel, training, and readiness.

160620-Z-ZZ999-032Brigadier General Kevin Griese, SDARNG Assistant Adjutant General, presented the award in recognition of superior performance during the 2015 training year. “You are one of the largest companies in the SDARNG receiving a Superior Unit Award,” said Griese. “That speaks volumes on the commitment you’ve each made to the organization and to the effort you’re putting into your training and readiness.”

The 740th is one of 15 units in the SDARNG which received the Superior Unit Award. “This is the fourth time in five years that the 740th has been named a superior unit,” said Capt. Hogan Easton, 740th Company Commander. “It’s great to see their hard work and dedication to the state and nation recognized at such a high level.”

Some of the award criteria include: maintaining high percentages in assigned strength numbers, drill and annual training attendance, weapons qualification, and the Army Physical Fitness Test. “Being named a Superior Unit instills a sense of pride that we’re in a well-trained unit and consistently performing above and beyond expectations,” said Staff Sgt. Frank Hoss, a team leader in Detachment 1, 740th.160620-Z-ZZ999-022
