The last event in the Lake Farley Summer Event Series, sponsored by the Milbank Area Chamber of Commerce, came to a close Saturday, August 13, with the 3rd annual Farley Rock Concert and the 10th annual burnout competition.

According to Event Director Laura Kelly, approximately 275 people attended the rock concert performed by the band Snake Oil. “We had perfect weather for an outdoor concert and amazingly talented entertainment to go along with it! Turnout was a little lower than we hoped, yet somewhat understandable considering all the other events going on in the area the same night. The band was phenomenal to watch! The lead singers did at least nine different costume changes, coming back as a ‘different band’ every time. The crowd was up at the front of the stage, dancing and singing along. It was a great time!”

The burnout competition featured 14 competitors split into two classes. Ten of those competed in the two-wheel division. Jayson Christofferson topped the field in first place with his 1985 Monte Carlo SS. He was rewarded with $300 in prize money.

Zach Pettyjohn finished in second place with his 1989 Mustang while Mathew Bach was third in his 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Pettyjohn earned $150 with Bach taking home $50.

Four competitors battled for first place in the single-wheel division. Tanner Meagher captured the top spot with his 1989 S15 GMC truck, and was rewarded with $250. Sam Athey came in second place with his 1978 Newport while Kobin Huber was third place with his 1990 Chevy Silverado. Athey took home $125 with Huber securing $25.

The 29th annual car show also took place Saturday. The complete story on that event can be found elsewhere on The Valley Express.
