Berndt assumed command, Oct. 2, from Capt. Hogan Easton, of Sioux Falls, who commanded the unit since October 2014.

As the commander of the 740th, Berndt is now responsible for command and control, administrative, logistical and training support for about 170 Soldiers in the Milbank-based unit headquarters and the Aberdeen-based detachment.

“It’s an honor to command the best transportation company in the nation and continue to help this unit grow,” said Berndt. “I am excited to reunite with Soldiers I’ve deployed with and even more excited to meet the Soldiers I do not know yet.” Berndt, who has nearly14 years of military service, works full time for the SDARNG as the state budget officer.

Easton will transfer to the 139th Brigade Support Battalion in Brookings as the ammunition officer. “The 740th has taught me the love of family throughout the unit, and I am proud to say that I have been a part of such an amazing unit,” said Easton,
