2016-10-21_20-04-59-1The Milbank FFA Chapter earned a Silver, by winning 18th place, at the National FFA Floriculture Career Development Event (CDE). The 89th National FFA Convention was held in Indianapolis from October 19 through October 22. The team members, all placing silver, were: Tera Hanson, Kimberlly Aburto, Maddie Liebe, Korinne Roggenbuck, and Cassidy Voeltz.

“In the National FFA Floriculture CDE, FFA members test their knowledge and skills in the production and retailing of flowers, plants and foliage,” explained Milbank FFA advisor Jerry Janisch. “Participants must complete a general knowledge exam on the Floriculture industry, identify plant materials, demonstrate problem solving and decision-making skills, employment and customer service skills, technical floral skills, and the ability to work as a team.”

The local team captured first place at the State FFA Convention last April to earn the privilege of representing their home state at the National FFA Convention & Expo. This event, held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, was one of many educational activities at the national convention in which FFA members apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to real-life situations.
