milbank_ffa_participantsThree teams and one individual from the Milbank FFA chapter will advance to the state FFA Leadership Career Development Event (CDE) in Pierre on December 4 and December 5. Members secured top places at the District 1 event, competing against Webster, Groton, Clark, Sisseton, Wilmot, Deuel, Florence, and Doland. FFA members who place first at the state event represent South Dakota at the National FFA Convention in October 2017. Students who will represent the district at State include: Trevor Schmidt, Kimberly Aburto, Nathan Loutsch, Chase Pinkert, Claire Mischel, Sarah Jarman, Kadon Leddy, Cassidy Christians, Joe Harstad, Tori Hooth, Payton Wendland, Jackson McFaden, Alex Farrell, Kellie Christians, Moritz Wortmann, Tanner Kettwig, Caroline Klettke, and Sara Capp.

senior_ffa_officersTaking first place, Gold, in the Senior Conduct of Meetings was the team of Trevor Schmidt, president; Kimberly Aburto, vice president; Nathan Loutsch, sentinel; Chase Pinkert, treasurer; Claire Mischel, secretary; Sarah Jarman, reporter; and Kadon Leddy, student advisor. In the Senior Conduct of Meetings CDE, the FFA officers take a test on parliamentary procedure. Each team performs a mock meeting with a 15-minute time limit using a special topic selected by the judges.

Earning second place, Silver, in the Junior Conduct of Meetings were: Cassidy Christians, president; Joe Harstad, vice president; Tori Hooth, sentinel; Payton Wendland, treasurer; Jackson McFaden, reporter, and Alex Farrell, student advisor.

ag_issues_groupThe Agriculture Issue team captured first place, Gold. They included: Jackson McFaden, Kellie Christians, Moritz Wortmann, Tanner Kettwig, Caroline Klettke, Kimberly Aburto and Sara Capp.

Kadon Leddy will also advance to the state competition in Extemporaneous Speech and Prepared Public Speaking. He earned a Gold in both competitions.

Kimberly Aburto was selected as District 1 President. Claire Mischel was selected as the District 1 Sentinel. The duo will represent the district at the FFA State Legislative Breakfast in January.
