Twenty-seven children, each with a local law enforcement officer, shopped at Runnings on Wednesday, December 21. The Grant County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the Grant County Child Protection Team, Shopko, and Inter-lakes Community Action Partnership (ICAP) teamed up to sponsor the annual “Christmas With A Cop”. The program helps children in need buy Christmas presents for their families.
Every child was given $100 to buy Christmas gifts for their family members and one special person in their life. Volunteers wrapped the presents and the children took the gifts home to place under their trees to eagerly await Christmas Day.
“We work with the teachers in the elementary schools to identify children and families,” explained Heather Rise of ICAP. “The project is not necessarily for low-income families, but those who are in need one way or another this holiday season. The FOP, Child Protection Team, and Shopko each donated $500. ICAP added the remaining amount.
