rea2-winterWhetstone Valley Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Milbank, South Dakota, and serving members in Grant and Roberts counties report many members remain without power. Poles and transmission lines serving Whetstone Valley Electric and surrounding cooperatives are still down. Nearly 200 broken Whetstone Valley poles have been identified and repairs are in progress.

Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative General Manager Dave Page stated, “We expect crews and equipment from other electric cooperatives to begin arriving Tuesday for assistance in restoration efforts. Line crews of regional transmission systems and Whetstone Valley Electric will continue their efforts to restore power to our members as quickly and safely as possible.”

The cooperative encourages its members to check on neighbors who might need assistance during the power outage and to stay away from downed power lines. The statement continued to say, “We regret the inconvenience of this outage.” We are unable to provide a timeline for complete restoration. Please prepare for an extended outage – possibly several days.”
