Four students from Milbank Middle School placed in the Watertown Elks Lodge Americanism Essay Contest. The students will be honored at a banquet at the Watertown Elks Lodge Thursday, February 2.
Seventh graders Hattie Muellenbach, Isaac Sousa, and Hailey Hupke earned the top three places. Muellenbach tied for first place, Sousa placed second, and Hupke, third. Sixth grader Dylan Sonon-Bohn won third place in his age group.
“Over 350 essays were submitted by 18 northeastern South Dakota schools,” explained MMS teacher Robin Simmons. The contest focused on the importance of voting.”
