Nick Mears, a South Dakota State University senior safety, ended his collegiate football career on a high note. He received the Scholar-Athlete Award during the February 11, Jackrabbit awards banquet.
Mears was also selected for the Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star team. He majors in economics and posted a 4.0 grade point average.
Mear’s football career has been highlighted by many accolades: CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District in 2014 and 2015; Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic First Team in 2015; MVFC Presidents Council Academic Award in 2015; and MVFC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. He was also on the MVFC honor roll each year from 2012 to 2016.
Nick is the son of Dennis and Val Mears of Milbank.
