Milbank High School senior, Connor Lightfield, defended his state title during the Class A State Debate tournament at Mitchell High School last weekend. Lightfield was co-champion with fellow teammate, Rebekah Tuchscherer, at the 2016 state event. He was again crowned State Class A champion in Lincoln-Douglas Debate for 2017. He also was a finalist in Class A United States Extemporaneous Speaking and finished in fourth place overall.
Claire Mischel was a semi-finalist in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Kimberlly Aburto and Nathan Loutsch were octofinalists in Class A Public Forum Debate. Loutsch was also a finalist in US Extemporaneous Speaking and finished sixth overall.
Spearfish captured the Class A Sweepstakes Championship. Lennox was the runner-up.
