The 1967 boys basketball team from Milbank was honored as they celebrated the 50th anniversary of their State Class A championship title. Players, coaches, and cheerleaders were recognized during the 2017 State A tournament Thursday, March 16,  in Sioux Falls.

Present for the event were: (Back l. to r.) Rich Olson, Dave Graf, Coach Dave Wolsky, John Schleicher, Jack Wilson, and Jim Crowl. Middle row: Barb Dohrer representing the late Rick Dohrer, Mark Comstock, Brad Helm, and Mark Wilson. Front: Doug Dohrer and Marlin Forman.

The poem MHS Head Coach Dave Wolsky wrote in 1967 is reprinted below:

March 15th and Sioux Falls was the site,
Aberdeen found out that the Bulldogs could bite.
The papers all said the Eagles in a breeze,
When it was over, they were down on their knees.
The Argus carried the story on the third sport page,
But the Bulldogs knew that they had come of age.
It was Yankton next – the ESD power,
They took theirs and headed for the shower.
Yankton had Lawson, Brimer and Gross,
Final score 5046 – that’s pretty close.
Close counts in horseshoes – ain’t that a shame,
Too bad Bucks – try another game.
Now came the big one, Rapid City by name,
The Bulldogs were primed for the championship game.
Waukazoo’s tough when he’s really on the beam,
The Cobblers found out – one man can’t beat a team.
Milbank started slow and finished with a fury,
The boys from West River were easy to bury.
The Bulldogs played well and showed lots of finesse,
And left Rapid confused and a cobbled-up mess.
It took a lot of time and figurin’ too,
To come with Leo’s really “big shew.”
Thanks a lot Leo for the victuals and all,
A most enjoyable time, a real live ball.
