Ryan Scouler, MHS assistant boys basketball coach, was named the Region 2 Assistant Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. Scoular, along with the other honorees, will be recognized at halftime of the SDBCA boys and girls All-Star games Sunday, April 9, at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
“Coach Scoular is more than deserving of this award,” stated Bulldog Head Coach Matt Bastian. “He is a great asset to our program with his knowledge of the game. The thing fans do not realize is the time he sacrifices from his family to go to clinics, open the gym, and go to camps during the summer.”
Scoular completed his fifteenth year of coaching basketball this season. He began his coaching career in Summit where he was the head boys coach for three years. He was then an assistant boys coach in Waubay before joining the staff in Milbank. He has been the assistant coach for the Bulldogs the past seven years.
Scoular said, “The coaches I had and my love of sports is the reason I became a coach. I had a lot of respect for my coaches, and I wanted to be like them. This award is special to me because it is chosen by other coaches. It is rewarding to know your peers respect you.”
