Milbank Area Hospital Avera will host an open house Thursday, May 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. to welcome the public and answer questions about their new dialysis service. The state-of-the-art dialysis unit includes four stations and will accommodate as many as 12-15 patients each week.
Natalie Gauer, Milbank Area Hospital Avera Director, said, “We are celebrating this milestone because we know how crucial dialysis services are to so many who live in our part of South Dakota, and we have worked hard to get this new facility up and ready for them. Our foundation, our providers, Avera leaders, and donors were instrumental in making this a reality.” Gauer said the equipment is in place, but the date for its first patient is not set.
Amber Paysen and Haley Harms will serve as the registered nurses for the unit. Shelby Johnson will be the dietitian, and Linsey Allen will serve as the social worker. Glen Geditz of Avera McKennan will be the regional dialysis manager.
