No more pencils. No more books. Schools out for summer. Schools out forever at Grant-Deuel School in Revillo. Grant-Deuel School closed permanently on May... Grant-Deuel School Says Farewell

No more pencils. No more books. Schools out for summer. Schools out forever at Grant-Deuel School in Revillo. Grant-Deuel School closed permanently on May 18. A crowd of students, teachers, staff, alumni, and friends gathered that day to pay homage to 52 years of Wildcats.

Superintendent Al Stewart and Dean of Students Paulette Grube spoke during the farewell ceremony as the group surrounded the flagpole outside the school. The band, directed by Kristy Tostenson, played the National Anthem and Grant-Deuel’s school song one last time. Teacher Matt Lagerstrom led the middle school students as they lowered the flag, folded it, and presented it to Stewart.

“We tried hard to keep this year positive and not focus on any sadness,” Stewart said. “We have so many things to celebrate and be happy about. We feel proud and honored for all we have accomplished here at Grant-Deuel. We have priceless memories that will last an eternity.”

Stewart went on to say, “We spent a lot of time working on ways to remain open as a school district. Funding was never an issue, it purely came down to the lack of students.”

Nearly all the staff have secured employment elsewhere for next year. Several were hired by the the Milbank School District and others by the Deuel, Waverly-South Shore, and Watertown districts. Many of the students are also relocating to Milbank, Deuel, or Waverly-South Shore.
