The Grant County Commissioners held their regular meeting of the board Tuesday, August 1. The board reviewed the county’s spraying plan with weed supervisor Nathan Mueller.
Commissioner Bill Street requested the review at the previous meeting after seeing areas of concern. Mueller said, “We have a lot of regulations which limit what type of spraying, when, and where it can be done.” He also went over the budget and reported $16,000 is allocated for chemicals. Mueller said approximately $11,000 of that has been used. He explained Grant County does a onetime blanket spraying and fills in with spot spraying as needed. “South Dakota is working toward only spot spraying,” said Mueller.
Commissioner Doug Stengel suggested taking a step back to look at how Grant County is doing compared to surrounding areas. He said, “We are doing a very good job with the money and resources we have available.” The board was satisfied with the report and no changes are expected.
In other business, the board approved a right-of-way application from ITC for County Road 10 and County Road 35. They also approved the payment of national dues for the IAAO (International Association of Assessing Officers), as requested by Department of Equalization officer Kathy Steinlicht.
The next regular meeting of the Grant County Commissioners is Tuesday, August 15, at 8 a.m.
