Personnel changes for 2017-2018 were approved by the Milbank School District Board of Education at their regular meeting Monday, August 14.

Brenda Nomeland was hired as the school nurse at Koch School.  Brenda has worked as an RN since 1981, and most recently was employed by the Avera Medical Group Milbank clinic. She is the wife of Great Western Bank Market President Steve Nomeland. “We feel fortunate to have someone with the wealth of experience that Brenda comes to us with,” stated Superintendent Tim Graf.

Kristi Seehafer was hired as a paraprofessional at Milbank Middle School. She fills the position recently vacated by Jolene Rick. “Kristi brings a variety of experience, including classroom experience in Title and Special Education,” said Superintendent Tim Graf. “She also completed a long-term substitute position with the district this past spring.”

Rick tendered her resignation as the middle school para and coach. She has been with the district since 2010 and has accepted a position with Nelson Law Office in Milbank.

Morgan Schmitt was hired to fill the paraprofessional position held by Kari Schmeichel. Schmeichel will instead be the teacher for Blue Sky Colony. “Morgan was a recent graduate from two years ago and worked in the cadet program in Special Education at the high school,” said Graf.

Shelly Welberg was hired for the food service department. Supplemental contracts were also approved for Christine Townsend as a middle school track coach, and Amber Fraasch as the head gymnastics coach.

Eleven open enrollment applications were approved. Students are from the Ortonville, Big Stone City, and Deuel School districts.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Education is Monday, September 11, at 7 p.m.
