Love of God and people has sparked the group Serve Milbank. “We want to do the things we believe God is calling us to do – be the church,” said Calvary Church Pastor Jake Helmstrom. “Our goal is to help meet the needs of people by showing them the love of Jesus.”

Helmstrom said the group knows Milbank has many great programs to take care of local people. “But we also know there are people who fall through the cracks.”

The group, spearheaded by Brian Anderson, has put a team together to go out and serve. “Some people may need help getting their house up to code or getting their vehicle fixed. Others may need a meal, groceries, or help with their children. No matter what the need, we are here to help with no expectations in return. We want to help people get through those tough spots.”

Pastor Helmstrom understands the concept, because he was given help during a rough patch in his life. “I’ve also had the privilege of being part of some really cool things such as a homeless ministry in Florida. It’s amazing to see what God will do once you step out of your comfort zone. I’m excited to see what we can do here in Milbank.”

“Calvary Church is running the project, but anyone can be part of this,” said Daryl Liebe. Those in need of assistance are welcome; those who want to help other people are also welcome. Monetary donations and donations of materials and supplies are encouraged.

“This is a unified effort,” Helmstrom added. “Please partner with us and help by using your gifts and talents. Let’s take what God has given us and help somebody else.”
