Michael Swan was sentenced to life in prison today by Judge Robert Spears in the Grant County Courthouse. Sixty-three-year-old Swan was convicted of second degree murder in the death of his wife, 77-year-old Angela Swan, at the couple’s Milbank apartment on October 24, 2016.
According to States Attorney Mark Reedstrom, the life sentence is the only sentence he could have been delivered. “A lesser sentence for second degree murder could not be considered,” Reedstrom stated.
Swan was detained in the Grant County Detention Center since his arrest in 2016. He was immediately transported to the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls following the sentencing today.
