VanMeters Have First Baby of 2018 at Milbank Hospital

Sara and Ryan VanMeter of Milbank are the parents of the first baby born in 2018 at the Milbank Area Hospital Avera. Millicent Jeannette VanMeter was delivered by Dr. Nanci Van Peursem on Wednesday, January 24, at 10:53 p.m. The little bundle of joy weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces and stretched 21 inches long.

Millicent’s mother is a fourth grade teacher at Koch Elementary School. Her father is employed at Kibble Equipment. She also joins an older brother, Royce.

Natalie Gauer, administrator at the hospital says, “There have been some years where it has been this late in January, so this is not unusual. We had a lot of babies born at the end of 2017, but it just took a little while for the first one of the new year to arrive.” The family was presented with a bag of gift items for the new baby.
