Grant County Sheriff Kevin Owen presented his year-end report to the Grant County Commissioners during their regular meeting at the Grant County Courthouse on Tuesday, February 6. “These are not everything that we do, but a glimpse into a lot of the bigger things,” said Owen. He reported:
In 2017 The Grant County Sheriff’s Department
Registered 14 sex offenders – Grant County registers sex offenders twice a year and continues regular contact
Booked 267 people into jail – 186 males and 81 females
Investigated 5 serious assaults.
Investigated 1 felony burglary
Investigated 10 thefts
Made 23 serious drug arrests – a decrease from 2016
Investigated 3 serious sex crimes
Issued 70 traffic citations
Investigated 61 traffic accidents
Served 371 civil papers
Responded to 17 unattended death calls – in conjunction with the Grant County Coroner’s Office
Logged 4,688 dispatch calls
Answered 897 911 calls
Prepared 674 civil documents
Collected $85,998.54 for Grant County
Other Business heard during the Grant Commissioners’ meeting included:
Kerwin Schultz, Grant County Highway Superintendent, presented bids received for materials to build a storage/garage building for the highway department. Brewster’s Building Center in Milbank had the lowest bid at $13,000. The board approved accepting Brewster’s bid. Employees of the highway department will erect the building as time allows as a fill-in project.
The commission approved the renewal of a liquor license for 2018 for the Big Stone Pumpkin Patch. The remainder of the meeting was held in executive session. The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, at 8 a.m.
