Nine teams from the Northeastern South Dakota Chapter of MATHCOUNTS vied for a chance to compete at the state meet. The schools met in Brookings on February 3. Milbank Area placed third by collecting 32.25 points.
Holgate MS (Aberdeen) won the top place with 45.25 points, followed by George S. Mickelson (Brookings) with 39.25. As the top two teams, they move on to compete at the state level in Pierre on March 10.
In the individual scoring, Milbank’s Max Lightfield took 15th place. Bennett Schwenn took18th place, and Isaac Sousa brought home 23rd place. Coach Schmeichel accompanied the group.
