The Big Stone City School begins registration for the Little Lions’ Learning Center and the OST program on March 22. Registration will be held in the Big Stone City School gymnasium from 3:00p.m.- 8:00 p.m. The free-will donation meal will be served from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.
The center will be open year round for children age 6 weeks to 5 years old Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. in the St. Charles Catholic Church parish hall beginning June 1. The programs are designed to provide childcare in a safe, educationally-structured, environment and to emphasize social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. The programs include art, music, science, literacy, math, and outdoor experiences.
Summer OST operates from May 29, through August 17. from 7:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. After school OST will be offered during the school year from 3:30 p.m – 6:00 p.m. on school days and during non-school weekdays from 7:00 a.m – 6:00 p.m. OST serves students five years old and older including those from surrounding communities. Students will participate in weekly field trips to the pool, summer reading program, and 4-H.
Both programs are licensed and registered with the South Dakota Department of Social Service. Through a collaboration with the Adult and Child Food Program, healthy and nutritious meals and snacks will be offered to all children in the programs. Minnesota and South Dakota childcare assistance is available to qualifying families.
