Nearly 170 guests attended the free food giveaway on August 15, sponsored by the Grant County Christian Service Council in partnership with Feeding South Dakota. Fifty volunteers – ranging in age from two to 85 – helped to distribute 13,196 pounds of food.
The missions committee from Central United Methodist Church also donated a package of toilet tissue for every guest. Members of CUMC traveled on a mission trip to Haiti this summer to help build latrines there. The toilet tissue giveaway was a follow-up to their sanitation project.
The next food giveaway is scheduled for October 17. It will be the last giveaway until April 2019.
