The Milbank High School football team hosted Aberdeen Roncalli during 2018 Homecoming week on Friday, September 14. Temperatures soared during the day and didn’t let up in the evening, but adding to the heat and humidity, the Bulldogs gave the Cavaliers a good soaking. The final score was 45-26.
“We executed our tempo offense very well, and that was the reason we controlled and won the game. We dominated up front and had almost 300 yards rushing,” said the Bulldog’s head coach, Adolph Shepardson.
Senior Jacob Karges racked up 221 of the rushing yards on 28 carries. Karges also had four of the Bulldog touchdowns. Kaden Krause added the other three Milbank scores.
The Bulldogs scored early and kept at it, and defensively shut down Roncalli in both the first and fourth quarters of the game. Freshman Bennett Schwenn picked off the lone interception for the Dawgs. Jordan Riley and Jake Fox each added fumble recoveries to the defensive stats, and Jacob Sandvig contributed seven tackles.
Shepardson said, “Credit to Roncalli for never quitting and making us work for four hard quarters. We now have the lead in the NEC at 2-0, and Roncalli falls to 2-1.”
Up next for the Bulldogs, is another home game. Shepardson says, “We have a big week ahead of us with Dakota Valley coming to town at 4-0.” Kick off time is 7 p.m. on September 21.
