Milbank 3rd Graders Surprised by Tye Schaffer’s Visit
Local News October 17, 2018 Staff Writer 0
Tye Schaffer, a third-grader at Koch School who was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, made it to school today. But he didn’t walk or even take the bus. He arrived with lights flashing and sirens blaring! Tye astonished all his fellow third-graders by rolling up in a shiny red fire truck with fireman, Justin Mathiason, behind the wheel.
Tye’s dream was to get back to school for a day and surprise his friends by jumping out of a box. He said, ” Jumping out of a fire truck was wayyy better!”
Tye is the son of Mike Schaffer. He has been undergoing cancer treatments in Sioux Falls. A benefit dinner to help defray Tye’s medical expenses will be held this Sunday, October 21. The free will spaghetti dinner runs from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m at Speedway Event Center in downtown Milbank. One dollar gets you five tickets for kids games. A silent auction will also be held.
