On Saturday December 15, the Milbank Police Department contacted the Ortonville Police Department at 9:08 a.m. to report a stolen 2014 Chevrolet Impala. The vehicle had been taken near the Milbank Hospital and the direction it was fleeing was unknown.

The Ortonville Police Department observed the stolen vehicle headed eastbound on Highway 12 in Ortonville. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, a high-speed chase ensued. The stolen vehicle reached speeds of over 100 mph. After a short distance the officer lost sight of the suspect’s vehicle.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office contacted OnStar to learn the stolen vehicle was behind a residence in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue in Ortonville. When officers arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied.

At the same time, another vehicle, a white 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was also reported stolen from the 700 block of Orchard Avenue. Officers believe the original suspect – a female- crossed the border to return to South Dakota in the stolen Trailblazer, but the suspect and vehicle have not been apprehended. The Big Stone County Attorney is pursuing criminal charges.
