The 20th Annual SDMEA Middle School All-State Band Festival will be held March 1 through March 2, at Huron High School. The event is sponsored by the South Dakota Music Educator’s Association.

Milbank Middle School will be represented by seventh-grader Joe Schulte as sixth-chair euphonium in the honor band. Hope Karels, a seventh-grader, was selected as second-chair bass clarinet in the Festival Band, and Rachel Schulte was chosen as eighteenth-chair clarinet.

The guest conductor of the Honor Band is Dr. Jacob Wallace, SDSU Director of Bands. The guest conductor of the Festival Band is Mr. Tyler S. Grant from the University of Alabama. In observance of the 20th anniversary, Mr. Grant was commissioned to compose a song for the Festival Band.

Over 400 musicians from 80 schools auditioned this year. Susan Karels, band instructor for MMS and MHS, will accompany the Milbank students to the event.
