If “cheese is milk’s leap toward immortality,” Valley Queen has taken a giant step! Valley Queen is celebrating 90 years of business in Milbank. The company was started in 1929 by Alfred Nef and Alfred Gonzenbach, young cheesemakers who had emigrated from Switzerland. Now, Valley Queen invites everyone to visit their Heritage Center to learn about the company and its founders’ path to success.
Stop at the Heritage Center to meet Daisy, the replica cow, or meet your friends there. The celebration goes on through Friday, March 8 and includes samples of the locally-made Valley Queen cheese and complimentary truffles from Lindt, a Swiss-based chocolate maker. Browse the interactive memorabilia collected to highlight the history of Valley Queen and explain the cheese-making process. Or, watch a brief video in the theater room.
While you are at the center, purchase select varieties of Valley Queen cheese at only $2.90 per pound. Enter the contest to win commemorative Valley Queen apparel.
The Valley Queen Heritage Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at 106 Main Street in Milbank.
