The 20th Annual SDMEA Middle School All-State Band Festival was held at Huron High School on March 1 and March 2. Joe Schulte, a seventh grader, played the euphonium in the Honor Band. The Honor Band was under the direction of Dr. Jacob Wallace of SDSU.

Two other Milbank seventh graders- Rachel Schulte on clarinet and Hope Karels on bass clarinet – played in the Festival Band, Mr. Tyler S. Grant of the University of Alabama directed the Festival Band. The performance also premiered Mr. Grant’s composition Banshee of the Badlands.

Susan Karels, director of Milbank’s grades 6-12 bands, accompanied the students to Huron. The All-State Band Festival is sponsored by the South Dakota Music Educators Association.
