The American Red Cross bloodmobile will be at the Milbank High School Armory from noon until 6 p.m on Tuesday, July 23. Entry is through the front door.

Appointments are still available at redcrossblood.org by using Milbank or 57252 as the blood drive name. Donors are encouraged to go online to complete a Rapid Pass the day of the drive. Printing out the results or doing it all on your phone saves time, but is not a requirement.

According to Margaret Skoog, registered nurse and coordinator of the drive, Milbank is unusual. She says, “The turnout for our blood drives is higher than most communities of the same size. Still, she says, “Blood donor statistics show only three people in 100 give blood; at least 37 of 100 could be donors.

Skoog says, “Who are the three in 100? Extraordinary people who are willing to share their blood with someone they will never meet to give them a chance at life. Are you willing to roll up your sleeve and help?”
She cautions all donors to eat well and drink plenty of non-alcoholic or non-caffeinated beverages. Valley Baptist will provide snacks during the blood drive and a meal for the Red Cross bloodmobile staff and volunteers. Valley Queen provides cheese.

Skoog says, “Most people who take prescription medication can still give blood. Exclusions include blood thinners, prostate medication, chemotherapy, and a few others. Most people who have successfully completed treatment for cancer and who have been cancer-free for an entire year can give blood after checking with the American Red Cross at 1.800.733.2767.” Questions?
