Kevin Schuelke, head of Grant County Emergency Management, reports an application briefing was held at the Grant County Courthouse on July 11 in response to the 2019 Spring Snowmelt and Flooding Disaster Declaration. The briefing, attended by representatives from the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management and representatives of FEMA, was a continuation of the damage assessment completed for Grant County in April and May.

The meeting’s purpose was to prepare townships, counties, and cities for the next step in the process as Presidential Disaster Declaration (DR-4440) applies only to public infrastructure. Damage to roads, culverts, bridges, and public buildings are typical items covered. This does not include residential homes and businesses.  FEMA says it plans to meet with applicants in the next few months.
