The MHS Oral Interp team traveled to Dakota State University in Madison for the Dakota Invitational – Karl E. Mundt Oral Interpretation Tournament on... Brown, Wiese, and Hupke in Top 11 at Oral Interp Tourney

The MHS Oral Interp team traveled to Dakota State University in Madison for the Dakota Invitational – Karl E. Mundt Oral Interpretation Tournament on Saturday, October 26. The event included 252 entries from 27 schools (classes AA-B).

Landon Brown and Peyten Wiese advanced to the grand finals in duo with preliminary scores of 2 – 13, 1 – 15, and 1 – 15. They finished in fifth place out of 37. [The first number in the scores reflects their placement in the round (generally out of six entries), and the second is a score out of 15.]

Hailey Hupke made it to honor finals, which includes seventh through twelfth place, by posting preliminary scores of 1 -14, 2 – 12, and 1 -14. She finished in 11th place out of 63 in humor.

Also competing for Milbank were: Mackenzie Michels in drama (5 – 9, 5 – 10, and 5 – 11); Hailey Hupke, Yami Arano, Landon Brown, and Peyten Wiese in reader’s theater (5 – 11, 4 – 11, and 4 – 10); and Jacquie Wold and Danielle Kennedy in duo (4 – 11, 5 – 10, and 4 – 12). Wold and Kennedy are novices. The DSU tournament was just their second high school meet, but they competed in rounds against both novice and varsity duets.

According to Natasha Karels, head oral interp coach at MHS, the team also competed in the Brookings Fall Fest on October 28.
