You might experience de´ja´vu this Saturday night at the Milbank Snow Queen Festival. Two members of the musical entertainment -The Suns of the West – made their musical debut at Milbank Snow Queen Festival (Contest) in 1965. The duo won the junior division of the talent show that night. Terry Bagaus was only 12 years old and Neil Bagaus just 14.

The brothers went on to win two more times in 1966 and 1967, after moving up to the senior division. They also went on to form The Suns of the West band, tour across the United States, and play on the same stage with big names such as Hank Williams, Jr. and Tennessee Ernie Ford. The Suns of the West and individual members of the band were inducted into the South Dakota Music Hall of Fame in September 2019.

The Snow Queen Festival starts at 7 p.m. in the MHS theater. Eleven senior girls will vie for the title of Miss Milbank 2020, and 25 kindergarten girls hope to be named Little Miss Milbank.

Tickets are just $5. Get your tickets in advance on Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon in the MHS lobby or purchase them at the door.
