St. Lawrence Christmas Program Honors Jesus’ Birth in the Country

The St. Lawrence School presented their Christmas program on Wednesday, December 11, in the St. Lawrence gymnasium. This year’s theme highlighted Jesus’ humble birth in the country. The program was directed by Elizabeth Schulte, who was assisted by the entire St. Lawrence staff. Father Gary DeRouchey offered the welcome and prayer.
The fifth and sixth graders set the stage as they opened the program playing tone chimes and the fourth graders played recorders. The preschoolers and kindergarteners sang Christmas Bells, Come on Ring Those Bells, and The Angels Sing. First graders performed The Friendly Beasts, as a reminder of the humble surroundings of Jesus’ birth. They will also sang, acted, and provided sound effects for The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Students in second through sixth grade performed a highly-relatable Christmas musical It All Happened In the Country. Sixth-grade actors included: Carlos Fonder, Allie Meyer, Ashlynn Batchelor, James Nelson, Nathan Fonder, and Kendra Roggenbuck. Narrators included: Garrett Weber, Layten Osowski, and Marnie VanLith.
Musical selections included traditional carols, “city kid” songs, and a country theme song — Ballad of the Shepherds, a light parody of the Beverly Hillbillies theme song. Second and third graders sang Tell Me the Story, fifth graders read the Christmas story from Luke 2, and sixth graders donned costumes to portray the characters of Mary and Joseph, angels, shepherds, and wisemen.
The audience was also invited to join the students during Oh Come Let Us Adore Him. Refreshments were served following the performance.
