South Dakota Special Olympics announced the 2021 Special Olympics Northeast Area Spring Games will be held in Milbank. The event will feature more than 20 track and field events and an estimated 250-300 athletes.
The 2020 competition was slated to be held this May in Milbank for the first time, but that event was canceled by Special Olympics. The South Dakota Summer Games have also been canceled.
Abbey Trapp petitioned the state Special Olympics board to vote for a change of venue for 2020. The Games have historically been held in Watertown. Peggy Greiner and Abbey Trapp are coordinators for the Milbank event.
