Sara Johnson, former fourth and fifth grade teacher at Koch Elementary School in Milbank, has been rehired as a first grade teacher. Johnson taught at Koch School for 15 years — from 2004 – 2015. Before coming to Milbank, she was a teacher in Columbia Heights, Minnesota.

Johnson took a break five years ago to focus on her family, while her two youngest children were still at home. “As they started kindergarten, I volunteered in their classrooms, truly enjoying being a part of school and children’s learning,” she says. “I think teaching is something that was always part of my persona. As my children have gotten older, I started subbing more and more.” She was a long-term substitute in first grade at Koch School for the first quarter of the 2019-2020 school year.

“I loved the challenge of learning a new curriculum, finding activities for younger students, and seeing their happy faces every day. They had such enthusiasm for school. I realized I wanted to be back full time so when this opportunity came up, I felt this was my chance to return to school with a fresh start.”

Johnson’s husband, Brian, owns Johnson Family Dentistry. They have three children: Eli (14), Violet (9), and Gus (8).
