The 2020 It Takes a Spark Cancer Walk scheduled for June 12 has officially been canceled, but Ann Tuchscherer, a core committee member of the walk, says, “In July, expect a brand new look in fundraising for Grant County cancer patients.
In lieu of the traditional cancer walk, core committee members have created a drive-through luminary event set for July 24. The luminary event is a way for the community to individually commemorate loved ones lost to cancer. It has historically been a popular event during the cancer walk and the committee seeks to continue the tradition.
Pending city approval, the luminaries will be staged at Farley Park or another suitable location. Luminaries are available now from all cancer walk teams.
A new event — an online auction — is set for July 10-17. The website 32Auctions will feature photos and descriptions of items that would have been sold at the silent and live auctions at the cancer walk. Bidding will be open only for the week. Want to donate an item for the auction? Call Ann Tuchscherer at 605.432.6023.
The merchant ticket raffle is on right now. The raffle continues until it concludes with its drawing on June 12. The raffle is funded by generous Milbank merchants. Janelle Madsen at Twin Valley Tire coordinates the raffle ticket sales. “Janelle does a terrific job of lining up the prizes and tracking the tickets,” said Aaron Anderson, president of It Only Takes A Spark.
