The Milbank Area Lions Swim Team (MALST) will begin summer swim team practice on Wednesday, June 17 at Unity Square. Coach Jodi Street says, “Unfortunately due to guidelines and restrictions we had to cut the 10-and-under age group this season to maintain social distancing during practice.”

MALST will run a six-week season from June 17 – July 30. Swimmers will practice Monday through Thursday.

The team will follow all USA swimming guidelines and conduct temperature checks before each practice. Swimmers will enter Unity Square through the main door lobby and will be dismissed by lanes. Swimmers will exit through the south pool door. No parents or members will be allowed on the swim deck during practice. No locker rooms are open at Unity Square so swimmers will arrive in their swimsuits and leave in their suits.

Members will swim one family per lane or per end of the pool with a maximum of two families in a lane. Swimmers will always return to the end they started on. Street says, “So, if we work on 25-yard sprints, they will always be followed with a flip turn and 25-yard recovery, so swimmers always end where they start, and they aren’t resting on the opposite wall.”

“At this time there are no swim meets,” says Street. “All state meets have been canceled and regional meets across the US are also canceled. USA Swimming can’t sanction a meet until at least July 1.”
