According to Nancy Meyer, business manager for the Milbank School District, the district’s application for free school breakfast and lunch was approved by the United States Department of Agriculture {USDA). The school district will provide free breakfast and lunch for all students enrolled in the Milbank schools and at St. Lawrence. Distance and remote learners are also eligible to receive meals.

Brenda Anderson, principal at St. Lawrence school, says, “This also applies to our preschoolers. However, parents will need to pick up those meals at the high school.”

“The program will run from November 3 until June 30,” Meyer says.  “The meals will return to their regular price at the start of the 2021-22 school year.”

For meals-to go, contact Deb Underwood, the district’s food service director, at 605.432.5579 extension 1360 each Friday before 2:30 p.m. to request meals for the following week.  Underwood says she was out this summer with neck surgery, but is back now, and she and her team are excited to continue the program.  “From March 16 through July 31, the gals in the Milbank lunch department made 41,075 sack lunches/ breakfasts.”Meals-to-go will be picked up at the high school’s southeast entrance door No 3 between 10:30 -11:00 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Multiple meals will be distributed at each pickup.  Each participant receives two breakfast and lunch meals on Mondays and three breakfast and lunch meals on Wednesdays. Meyer reminds parents, “Meals can only be picked up by a student or that child’s parent or guardian. You cannot pick up meals for people who are not in your family. Three days of meals will be offered on Monday, November 23. No service will be available on November 25.”Questions?
