The South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and the Milbank Police Department held a Socktober collect-athon to gather outerwear for local residents in need.
Corey Hooth officer of the Milbank Police Department said, “34 jackets and sweatshirts, 89 hats, 67 pairs of gloves or mittens, and six scarves and headbands were donated. The group also received 313 pairs of socks – one of the most requested items on the list.” Hooth stated, “I’m very impressed with the generosity of people in the area.”
Trooper Paige Zempel of the South Dakota Highway Patrol said, “The clothing will be taken to the Milbank, St. Lawrence, Big stone City, and Wilmot schools for distribution. Adult items will be taken to the ICAP office at the Grant County Courthouse.” Zempel added, “If people still want to help, I encourage them to call their local schools and ask about their needs.”
