MHS junior Hailey Hupke earned a perfect score at the 111th Annual South Dakota Oral Interp Festival. She competed in Storytelling and received three fives. The MHS team received a Team Excellence Award. Class A teams with two or more superiors received the award. According Natasha Karels, coach of the MHS team, students are judged in five categories and given a score of 1-3 — a lower score is best. To earn a superior, a performance needs a cumulative score of 5-7 from two of the three judges. Five is a perfect score from a judge. MHS students who also received Superior awards included: Peyten Wiese and Hailey Hupke in Duo (scores 6, 6, 7); Jacquie Wold in Humor (5, 7, 8); and Peyten Wiese in Non-Original Oratory (5, 6, 8).
Mackenzie Michels earned a Superior rating in Serious Reading (6, 8, 10) from one judge. The MHS Readers Theater team of Aiden Boerger, Heidi Meyer, Hailey Hupke, Mackenzie Michels, Peyten Wiese, and Addy Hoke (7, 8, 15) also earned a superior ranking from one judge. Ivy Lewno competed in Poetry (9, 9, 15).
