Karla DeVaal was sworn in, Tuesday, January 5, as the new Grant County Treasurer. She began working in the treasurer’s office on October 1, 2014.
DeVaal’s husband, Jim, is a farmer and the couple has four children —Justin and Jamie of Milbank, Jeremy of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Jodi who attends SDSU.
She says,” As treasurer, my main duties are to balance county monies and handle property taxes and motor vehicle transactions for the public. I will be working closely with the auditor to balance the county monies.”
DeVaal, who graduated in 1985 from MHS, says she never imagined herself as the county treasurer, but computers were a consideration for a career path. She also says her No. 1 financial rule is: Know your budget, know what you owe, and know your payment deadlines.
