The Milbank School Board discussed the Milbank School District’s coronavirus and close contact quarantine policy during their regular meeting on Monday, February 8. High School Principal Dan Snaza stated, “Just two students are currently in quarantine and could possibly return to school later in the week.”

Because of this, the school board decided to stick to the six-foot and 15-minute rule to identify close contacts. “This will alleviate a lot of worry and concern we’ve had recently, especially when it comes to post-season athletic events,” stated Dick Schwandt, president of the school board.

MHS Activities Director, Ryan Scoular, informed the group that post-season events are close to getting underway.  The wearing of a mask is mandatory at all regional and state events. This includes spectators and athletes not competing.

Scoular noted the South Dakota High School Activities Association also released their guidance for spring athletic events. “There is nothing major because all those sports are outdoors,” Scoular said. “The biggest issue will be to keep the team camps separated from each other and from spectators for track and field.” There also will be no awards ceremonies during any of the spring sports.
