The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks (GFP) reminds anglers that state regulations require all ice shelters to be removed from the ice by midnight on the last day of February. Shelters can be used after that, but they must be taken off the ice each day.

Jamie Pekelder, district conservation officer supervisor for GFP, reports, “Over the last weekend, ice fishing pressure on area lakes was heavy. Anglers found around 20- 24 inches of ice – including on Big Stone Lake.”  “However,” Pekelder says, “caution is always advised when going onto the ice,”  He warns, “With warmer temperatures and wind coming this week, ice conditions will deteriorate rapidly and day-to-day conditions can change quickly.”
