The first food giveaway of 2021 conducted by the Grant County Christian Service Council in coordination with Feeding South Dakota is set for May 12. The giveaway will be held at the Grant County 4-H fairgrounds parking lot from 4-5 p.m. There are no income requirements. Anyone in need is eligible to receive food.

The food is provided by the USDA Farmers to Families Program. The giveaway is a drive-thru event. The food will already be boxed. Enter the fairground parking lot and wait for traffic flow directions.

Open your trunk or back lift gate once you are in line. Volunteers will place the boxes in your vehicle. Brenda Maass, coordinator of the giveaway says, “Please have a space ready in your vehicle for your box so traffic flow is not disrupted. She also reminds recipients, “We want to keep the line moving as quickly as possible, so we prefer you only pick up a box for your own family.  We understand some people must pick up food for others, but there is a two-family limit per vehicle.  When you get into the line, you will be required to provide your name and the other recipient’s name.” If you are unable to attend, make arrangements for someone else to pick up your food. No deliveries will be made after the event.

Want to help the Grant County Christian Service Council help our community? The council welcomes your donation. Mail your check to: The Grant County Christian Service Council at 210 E. Fifth Avenue in Milbank, South Dakota 57252.  The majority of the council’s funding comes from donations from the Thrift Store, but gifts from churches, businesses, and individuals ensure the council can continue to serve our community.
