Today, May 4, is International Firefighters’ Day. Each year on this date, we remember firefighters who died in the line of duty and the thousands of others who dedicated a part of their lives to protecting our communities.
Also on this day, we show our support and appreciation to the firefighters worldwide and in our own area who bravely continue their mission of saving lives and property.

The Milbank Fire and Rescue Department is a squad entirely made up of volunteers who tirelessly work — not just during a fire call, but all year — to Insure they are ready when duty calls.

At their annual meeting in April, the Milbank department held an election of officers. Those elected include: Fire Chief Kevin Schuelke, Assistant Chief Justin Mathiason, Assistant Chief David Giesen, Treasurer Joe Weber, Secretary Kerby Weets. Truck Captains Brian Homan, Kyle Schwandt, Steve Spors, Jason Krause, John Weyh and Craig DeBoer.
