UPDATE: Milbank Cancels 4th of July Fireworks

The 4th of July fireworks event on Sunday, July 4, at Lake Farley Park in Milbank has been postponed. 
Laurie Folk, director of the Milbank Area Chamber which sponsors the free fireworks display says, “After careful consideration, and due to the dryness of the area, the decision was made to postpone the annual fireworks celebration” 
According to Kevin Schuelke, fire chief of the Milbank Fire and Rescue Department, he conferred with the state meteorologist to come to the decision to postpone the event. They determined the rain received in Grant County last weekend has already been absorbed, no new rain has been received, and dry conditions that continue to worsen have created dangerous conditions. 
The new date for the fireworks celebration has not been set.
