According to Brenda Maass, of the Grant County Christian Service Council, the food drive held in conjunction with Feeding South Dakota on June 30... Food Giveaway in Milbank Helps 257 Families

According to Brenda Maass, of the Grant County Christian Service Council, the food drive held in conjunction with Feeding South Dakota on June 30 served 257 families for a total of 567 people. Maass says, “The number of families that attended was down considerably from this time last May. In May 2020, we served 335 families.”

Maass says Feeding South Dakota provides the food at no charge to the Grant County Christian Service Council, and for this drive, we were given 28,032 pounds of food — an entire semi load. It was, to date, the most food we’ve ever received. It equated to over 100 pounds of food per family.” Forty volunteers from seven area churches, three Christian organizations, and three local businesses assisted with the giveaway. Valley Queen and Ameriprise supply volunteers for every giveaway. Valley Queen also provides an employee with a forklift to help remove the pallets of food from the truck.  The next food giveaway is scheduled for August 18, but Maass says, “We are not certain if we will be able to hold it at the 4-H fairgrounds. There might be construction underway there then. So, stay tuned!” The Valley Express will keep you up to date with all information.
