On Tuesday, September 28, the Milbank Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to an emergency call on Main Street in Marvin. Firefighters arrived to find a downed power line.

Milbank’s Fire Chief, Kevin Schuelke, said, “Hazards associated with power lines touching the ground include arcing, the grass catching fire, etc.” The lines can carry an electric current strong enough to cause serious injury or death.

“These wires were touching asphalt,” Schuelke reported, “so there was no threat of a grass fire, and a fuse had blown immediately, so the line was no longer a hazard.”
The Milbank squad stayed on the scene until Otter Tail Power arrived to repair the broken line.
